![]() ![]() ![]() The gallery was inspired by her dissertation, The Contribution of Blacks in Akron's History: 1825–1975. McClain was instrumental in the formation of Akron's Black History Gallery at the University of Akron. In 1994, she was honored with the University of Akron's Alumni Honor Award for Excellence in Professional Achievement in 1994. ĭuring her career, McClain published over 15 articles and 45 academic papers. She additionally served as a professor of education and assistant director of teacher preparation at Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. in 1975, McClain joined the faculty of Kent State University in the College of Education, where she taught elementary and secondary education through 1987. Professional background Īfter earning her Ph.D. After earning her bachelor's degree, she taught elementary and secondary education for the first part of her career, additionally serving as a supervisor in the Akron Public School system. She attended the University of Akron, from where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degree, as well as her doctorate in education in 1956, 1970, and 1975, respectively. Together, they had two children, Kelli and Scott. She married Henry McClain on April 6, 1957. She had four siblings, including brothers Dumas and Duane, and sisters Sheila and Faith. As a very social man, he had a plethora of special friends who shared unforgettable memories with him.Shirla Lorraine Robinson was born in 1935 in Akron, Ohio to Dumas and Marcella ( née Macbeth) Robinson. Ray will be greatly missed and was the joy to many. Keith brother, Alvin (Joanne) West six grandchildren, Raemar Hogsett, Dominique Dansby, Raejean Lucius, Travis Lucius, Tavis Lucius and Najee Lyon seven great-grandchildren nephews, Darnell (Stephanie) Mumford, Denmark West and Justin Dansby niece, Samonia Mumford and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. He leaves to mourn, a devoted daughter, Dawntreva (Treva) Dansby one sister, Brenda E. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lillian Dansby his brother, Melvin Dansby and his daughter, Raemonda (Rae Rae) Dansby. He was sincere and comedically down to earth. Through an infectious smile and sense of humor, Ray was a straight shooter, never afraid to tell you what was on his mind. He built many friendships and family memories while congregating around a table of food. Ray loved to eat! He frequented favorite restaurants around town and conveyed his upbeat and amiable personality to everyone. As a lover of dress hats and flavorful wines, Ray enjoyed growing his collection of both. He was an avid traveler and often vacationed with family and friends to various places of beautiful wonder. As a knowledgeable and skillful handyman, Ray was a great resource for information and enlightened anyone in need who sought out his help. He also had a passion for restoration of classic cars and owned several favored classics of his own. As a hobbyist and enthusiast, Ray had a fathomless interest in workshops, building tools, machines, and equipment. ![]() As an entrepreneur, he led a lawn care business and also owned several rental properties. Ray was a jack of all trades and often busy doing various things.
